Title: Guerrilla Thunderstorms, Cream Puffs, and the Occasional Osprey
August 14, 2026. Right in the middle of the Obon holidays, the Tama region feels as emotionally unstable as an adolescent.
In Akishima City, a lightning advisory was issued, with heavy rain expected into the night. Due to the risk of sudden water rises, residents have been strongly advised to refrain from playing or fishing in the Tama River. Meanwhile, right next door in Musashimurayama City, the heavy rain advisory that had been in effect since the previous day was finally lifted. If the sky itself struggles this much to regulate its mood, it's no wonder we humans are constantly at the mercy of the weather.
Amidst this rainy scenery, videos of a beaver struggling valiantly in the downpour and the red panda "Takenoko" at Hamura's Hinotonton ZOO became a massive hit on SNS. Watching the beaver working so hard while completely drenched tugged at my heartstrings. Perhaps we, too, are just like beavers, desperately seeking shelter from the sudden downpours of modern society.
